In today's episode I speak with Psychologist Dr. Bomba who specializes in children anxiety and Former Teacher/Parent Tracy Samek on how to navigate the new school year during a pandemic. To try and help us figure out what is best for our children as some are going back to in-school learning while others are doing virtual learning, we tackle some of the biggest challenges we face. We discuss children and parent's anxieties plus some really good tips on setting our children up for a successful school year.

Show notes:

  • The best way to help your children through this pandemic is to be open and honest with them. Give them a safe place to express their feelings.
  • If they worry about getting the virus talk them through the steps you would take to help them feel better. Paint a picture of how you will nurse them back to health.
  • Anxiety is a human condition. Everyone has it.
  • When talking with your children about anxiety come from a place of empathy and acknowledge the confusion and frustration that kids might be experiencing.
  • If your family is handling the circumstances different than other families, acknowledge their confusion and let them know that you are doing what you think is best for your family.
  • Remote Learning: Find a System that works for your children. Create a physical space for them. Have them pick out school supplies to get buy in from them.
