The first half of life is for learning. The second half of life is for living.

The New Mid is a frank, funny look at women in mid-life and their day-to day-struggles and successes, as well as the big stuff - questions about meaning, fulfillment and happiness. It’s a place where women in their 40’s and up are breaking societal boundaries and expectations, while still dealing with real life issues such as caring for aging parents or restarting their careers.  You’ll get real talk with nothing held back about the topics you care about, with experts weighing in on health, sex, finances, relationships and everything in between.

Erin Hatzikostas joins me today to discuss the Five Myths That Are Holding People Back In Their Career and suggestions on how to overcome them.

  • Myth 1 - You need strong mentors and sponsors to advance your career. Although it's very helpful to have mentors and sponsors they're usually in your office. Look for "extenders" that can be people in different industries or celebrities. Basically their people that will inspire you and push you out of your comfort zone.
  • Myth 2  - You need to be the hardest working person in the room. Working yourself to the bone might not get you that promotion. If you want to be a good leader you need to slow down and lead people.
  • Myth 3 - You need a five year plan. Instead of having a five year plan it's better to have a future view. Write a future diary of what you want your life to be and write it as if it's already happened.
  • Myth 4 - Executive Presence. You don't need to act or dress a certain way. What's more important is having a real connection with people. Focus and develop authentic connections.
  • Myth 5 - You have to compromise to get ahead. Top talent are leaving jobs or not trying to get a promotion because they want a work/life balance. They don't want to compromise their families and health. So instead of compromising, focus on connections and standing out and being different.
