The first half of life is for learning. The second half of life is for living.

The New Mid is a frank, funny look at women in mid-life and their day-to day-struggles and successes, as well as the big stuff - questions about meaning, fulfillment and happiness. It’s a place where women in their 40’s and up are breaking societal boundaries and expectations, while still dealing with real life issues such as caring for aging parents or restarting their careers.  You’ll get real talk with nothing held back about the topics you care about, with experts weighing in on health, sex, finances, relationships and everything in between.

Thanksgiving is just around the corner and it’s going to be a bit different this year. We can hold on to some of our traditions but maybe it time to try something new, something more healthy. I reached out to Pump + Rye owners Amy Nesbit and Megan Hook to get their take on everything food!

Here's a few takeaways:

- Amy Nesbit has a long history of being a chef/consultant in Los Angeles, CA before becoming bi-coastal and opening a new market Deli with her sister Megan Hook.
-For healthier cooking you can substitute olive oil instead of butter.
- To get more flavor out of your meats, you can marinate them with a soy mirin marinate or add lemon, soy, ginger scallions and garlic.
- To boost the flavor of vegetables you can use fresh herbs, lemon juice, olive oil, sea salt and lemon zest.
- Dry rubs are also great for meats and can be absorbed for 24 hours or longer.
- How you should defrost meat and the best methods.
- Alternatives to making comfort food.
- How long should you keep leftovers?
