The first half of life is for learning. The second half of life is for living.

The New Mid is a frank, funny look at women in mid-life and their day-to day-struggles and successes, as well as the big stuff - questions about meaning, fulfillment and happiness. It’s a place where women in their 40’s and up are breaking societal boundaries and expectations, while still dealing with real life issues such as caring for aging parents or restarting their careers.  You’ll get real talk with nothing held back about the topics you care about, with experts weighing in on health, sex, finances, relationships and everything in between.

In today's New Mid Tips I talk about how you can use an experience from your past to realize you can overcome the feelings of being overwhelmed.

Here are Five Tips to help you get through it:

1- Write: I had a big spiral notebook in my desk. Whenever the situation would get particularly difficult I would shut my office door and do a complete brain dump. I would write everything that I was worried about, kept me up at night, problems I didn’t have answers to, tasks that had to get done, and wouldn’t stop until it was all written down.

2- Meditation/Prayer: In the top drawer of my desk I had written the Serenity Prayer. Once I’d read it I’d look over what I had written and cross out anything I could not control.

3- Make a list: I would then make a productive list of what needed to get done.

4- Prioritize: From the list I’d then prioritize in the order of importance of what needed to get done. If it could wait until tomorrow I would put a line through it and then make another list of those things that could wait until tomorrow.

5- Action: I’d then work my way through the list and made sure that I put a line or checked off whatever I got done. It made me feel so good when everything was either marked off or checked off. It also felt good to take the emotion out of it.
