The first half of life is for learning. The second half of life is for living.

The New Mid is a frank, funny look at women in mid-life and their day-to day-struggles and successes, as well as the big stuff - questions about meaning, fulfillment and happiness. It’s a place where women in their 40’s and up are breaking societal boundaries and expectations, while still dealing with real life issues such as caring for aging parents or restarting their careers.  You’ll get real talk with nothing held back about the topics you care about, with experts weighing in on health, sex, finances, relationships and everything in between.

Do you want to be healthier? Have more flexibility, stronger bones and a positive mindset? These are only a few of the benefits you will get from starting a yoga practice. Today I’m joined by the owners of Yogamour, a non-profit yoga studio that not only practices in Frederick, MD but also has a global reach. They discuss how to start a yoga practice and ways to take your practice off the mat into service of others.

SHOW NOTES

·      Yogamour not only teaches yoga in their community but also travels to India, Thailand, Myanmar and Cambodia where they bring much needed medical assistance as well as teaching yoga to the local communities. They wanted to bring "seva" or service to their community.

·      They schedule retreats several times a year and have taken over 100 volunteers on retreat. If you’d be interested in joining them on one of their retreats, you can go to their website Yogamour.org.

·      Yoga helps with your joints, flexibility and can help ease the effects of arthritis.

·      When starting a yoga practice whether it’s your first time or you’re starting back again, you’ll need to find the entry point for your physical activity.

·      Be sure to try a variety of classes to see what type of yoga is a good fit for you.

·      Online Yoga classes are also a great way to start yoga and keep it going especially if you’re traveling.

·      The benefit from going to a yoga studio versus online is having a teacher make sure you’re doing the poses correctly.

·      You also feel the sense of community and belonging.

·      Yoga should be practiced 2 to 3 times a week.

·      Yoga is very welcoming. There are people of all shapes, sizes and ages.

·      Yoga is physical with breath work and meditation.

·      Yoga means union of the breath, mind, and body in the spirit.

·      Namaste
