The first half of life is for learning. The second half of life is for living.

The New Mid is a frank, funny look at women in mid-life and their day-to day-struggles and successes, as well as the big stuff - questions about meaning, fulfillment and happiness. It’s a place where women in their 40’s and up are breaking societal boundaries and expectations, while still dealing with real life issues such as caring for aging parents or restarting their careers.  You’ll get real talk with nothing held back about the topics you care about, with experts weighing in on health, sex, finances, relationships and everything in between.

Have you been feeling anxious, depressed or just generally out of sorts? I know a lot of my family and friends have with all the things happening in the world right now. Wouldn't it be great if no matter the circumstance, we are able to face it with a calm, positive attitude? Or how about being able to genuinely forgive and wish the people who have done us harm, happiness and well being? Science has proven that we can rewire our brain to be more happy and calm no matter the circumstance. In today's episode I interview Brooke Hall to discuss the benefits and how to do Meditation.

Takeaways from this episode:

  • Meditation is a practice that trains our attention and awareness.
  • In training our minds, we can achieve a clear, calm, stable state of mind.
  • Why meditation is called "The Big Medicine."
  • There are many different types of meditation: Mindfulness, Transcendental, Mantra, Focus, Spiritual etc...
  • Meditation is not about having a completely empty mind of thoughts.
  • Meditation is The Power of Concentration.
  • Loving/Kindness Meditation is when you send well wishes to yourself and others.
  • Loving/Kindness Meditation can transform your life as you start with wishing yourself well, move to family friends, a neutral person and then someone who has hurt you.
  • In wishing someone who has hurt you well, releases you from the anger and resentment.
  • Loving/Kindness meditation is the antidote to resentment.
  • Brooke worked through her own resentment with a reporter who wrote very negative stories about her. She was able to wish him well and move past her anger. It taught her how to cope and by releasing her anger many good opportunities opened up and started coming her way.
  • Meditation is for anyone that suffers.
  • You can start by downloading free meditation apps.
  • You can also find a meditation community.
  • If you're someone with PTSD, you might want to do meditation with therapy as it could be a trigger.
  • There have been studies done that show daily meditation will increase the activity in your left frontal cortex. This is the area in the brain that makes you more calm, compassion and happy.
