The first half of life is for learning. The second half of life is for living.

The New Mid is a frank, funny look at women in mid-life and their day-to day-struggles and successes, as well as the big stuff - questions about meaning, fulfillment and happiness. It’s a place where women in their 40’s and up are breaking societal boundaries and expectations, while still dealing with real life issues such as caring for aging parents or restarting their careers.  You’ll get real talk with nothing held back about the topics you care about, with experts weighing in on health, sex, finances, relationships and everything in between.

In today's episode I wanted to get a better understanding of how we can bring our country more together during this time of unrest. I reached out to Gamal Palmer from Diversity Gym. He gives workshops and coaching to help companies build strategies to increase their value through diversity, equality and inclusion and to create an environment where people have more empathy. We discuss how we can take those same principles and make them part of our every day life.

Show notes:

  • We are all at different levels of our fitness when it comes to engaging with biases, prejudice and racial justice and injustice.
  • Our entire patterns and routines have shifted.
  • We are all sitting down and listening now more than ever.
  • In starting conversations about diversity, equality and inclusion we first must let go of our egos.
  • In order to heal brokeness we need to become egoless.
  • The importance of talking with our children and teaching them empathy.
  • We want to interrupt the cycle for our children.
  • The importance that professional leagues are having on helping bring awareness to the injustices going on in our country.
  • We talk about America's complicated history.
  • Rioting and looting is not right but our country has a history of doing just that to get attention.
  • It's important that we decipher the differences of peaceful protest, rioting and looting.
  • What we can do to help our communities especially after there has been civil unrest.
  • We talk about the techniques we can use to help create a more inclusive world.
